Walk For Animals 2025

An initiative and fundraiser for Farm Animal Rescue, Brisbane, QLD.

On Sunday 20 July, the heart of Brisbane CBD was filled with hope, compassion, and the collective footsteps of change-makers. Walk for Animals 2025, an initiative and fundraiser for Farm Animal Rescue (FAR), brought together a vibrant community of animal lovers, activists, families, and supporters committed to creating a kinder world for farm animals.

Held against the city skyline and alongside the streets of the Brisbane CBD, the walk served as a powerful call-to-action. Participants walked in solidarity for the millions of farmed animals who endure lives of suffering behind closed doors. With colourful signs, heartfelt chants, and an unmistakable energy of purpose, walkers raised both funds and awareness for FAR’s mission: to rescue, rehabilitate and advocate for farm animals in Australia.

A Movement for the Voiceless

Farm Animal Rescue provides lifelong sanctuary to animals rescued from abuse and neglect in the animal agriculture industry. FAR also works to educate the public about the realities of animal farming and promotes compassionate, plant-based living. Events like Walk for Animals are crucial to both funding FAR’s operations and amplifying its message.

This year’s walk highlighted the stories of FAR residents—individual animals with names, personalities, and histories of survival. Posters along the route featured pigs like Paris, who was born to Dorothy, a courageous mother who was rescued from the harsh realities of the pork industry in October 2022. These stories reminded everyone that farmed animals are sentient beings who deserve freedom and kindness, not commodification.

A Community United by Purpose

Participants travelled from across South East Queensland to attend, with some even coming from interstate. Children marched alongside parents, teens held signs with powerful slogans like “Be Kind to Every Kind,” and older generations brought wisdom and warmth to the group. Many attendees wore FARM ANIMAL RESCUE shirts to further draw attention and spark conversations with passersby. The sense of community was tangible—everyone present understood that when we walk together, our impact multiplies.

Voices Raised for Change

The event also featured short speeches to honour animals who have suffered and to recommit to the work ahead. FAR representatives spoke passionately about the realities of animal farming in Australia and the importance of sanctuary spaces as both safe havens and centres for public education.

Volunteers shared their experiences working with rescued animals and the transformations they’ve witnessed when animals heal and live without fear. Several walkers spoke of how visiting FAR had changed their lives—and their diets and lifestyles—forever.

Fundraising with Heart

Walk for Animals 2025 also served as a major fundraiser to support the daily running costs of the sanctuary. Every registration fee, donation, and merchandise purchase helped provide food, shelter, and medical care for FAR’s rescued residents.

With no government funding, the sanctuary relies heavily on the generosity of donors and supporters to continue its work. Thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of attendees, this year’s walk raised greatly needed funds to ensure FAR can continue offering refuge and hope to animals in need.

Looking Ahead

As the walk came to a close, there was a feeling of optimism in the air. While the road to animal liberation may be long, events like Walk for Animals show that the path is well-lit by compassion, awareness and collective action.

The team at Farm Animal Rescue expressed deep gratitude to everyone who took part, donated, and helped spread the word.

Until then, the message remains clear: every step counts, and every voice matters.
